Bolsters, Blocks and Straps
Bolsters are large supportive cushions, meant to bolster (support, strengthen or prop up) your body. Generally soft enough to lay on, but strong enough to support your body weight. They have a variety of uses from restorative yoga practices to padding tender joints. Blocks are used to support various parts of the body, such as hands, feet, hips, and back. They can help to connect the body to the floor allowing you to achieve better alignment and form during your yoga practice. This ensures the correct muscles are engaged and stretched during your postures. If I could only ever use one yoga prop it would be my cork block. It's not just beginners who can benefit from using blocks in yoga. In its simplest form, a yoga strap simply makes your arms longer. This particular prop is the easiest to substitute with household items, pet leashes, old ties, etc. “Proper” yoga straps can help us “bind” our bodies. They can help you move deeper into poses, build strength, and protect your muscles from injury by providing additional support and stability. Not only that, but yoga straps in their various lengths, widths and fabrics are incredibly versatile, allowing you to customize your practice to suit your needs.
